When children learn more than one language

Saturday 7. March 2020, at 10:00 until at 13:00

Venue: Amalie Skram

Host: MultiLing

Entrance: Free with registration

Are bilingual children smarter? How can I best support a multilingual child’s language development? Can a child with special needs learn more than one language? Join us for informative talks and interesting discussions, and to share your personal experiences with multilingualism!

If you are raising a multilingual child, work with multilingual children, or are curious how learning more than one language affects children’s development, join our free workshop on the early stages of language learning. Our international speakers from MultiLing at the University of Oslo will share with you the latest research on multilingualism during infancy and early childhood, and discuss practical issues on raising multilingual children.

Program

  • Multilingualism in infancy (Liquan Liu)
  • Multilingualism in childhood (Elisabet García González)
  • Multilingual children with special diagnoses (Franziska Köder)
  • Family language policy and interaction (Elizabeth Lanza)
  • Q&A and discussion

Practical information

The event is in English and aimed at interested adults, but children are of course welcome, too. There will be an activity table for children set up in the back of the room.

We will be serving coffee, tea and some light snacks. To be sure that we order enough for the event, please register here.

If you bring a pram, you may bring it to the event room. If we run out of space in the Amalie Skram room, prams must be left outside due to fire safety regulations.

The event is organized to mark the 2020 International Mother Language Day.
