Regular Events

Throughout the year, The House of Literature offers a programme for children and adults which reflects the variety of Norwegian literature and, at the same time, introduces a range of international voices into the Norwegian public sphere. In addition, a large number of externally organised events contribute to the great diversity of the provided programme, stregthening the House’s role as an arena for a constructive public exchange of ideas and opinions.

Each Wednesday the House of Literature invites Norwegian and international writers to read and discuss, host a theme night or debate. There will be a blend of enlightenment and entertainment, famous and less famous authors, light and heavy discussions and of course literature. In all forms.

A brief description of some of our own recurring events

Open mic / Åpen mikrofon

Once every quarter The House of Literature opens a microphone to anyone who wants to take advantage of it. Aspiring writers can read or perform in up to three minutes. One hour before the event, we post an enrollment list in The Basement.

The Saturday Lecture / Lørdagsforedraget

On selected Saturdays the House of Literature presents essayistic lectures on popular science. Saturday lectures begin at 15:00. The events are part of The House’s initiative Public Education and are sponsored by DNB.

Readings / Nærlesning

One Friday a month we invite you to a reading in The Basement. We open a book, a theme, a literary theory or dig out a dusty author from the bookshelf and try to approach the text and language in a new way.

The Guiding Stars of Literature / Litterære ledestjerner

In the series of event, The Guiding Stars of Literature, international authors present an authorship they admire in particular and which somehow has had an impact on their own writing.
