As the House of Literature is a house for everyone, we prioritise accessibility in the building, and availability through information material and programmes.

The building has two entrances. One at the front with steps leading to the entrance, and one on the side of the building on the ground level with automatic door openers and direct access to the public lift, which serves all floors, venues, and bathrooms. There is a designated handicap bathroom on the ground floor. Doorframes and ledges in all rooms are adapted to wheel chair users, with ample width and doorstoppers.

Assistants and interpreters attend events run by The House of Literature free of charge, providing identification. Please notify us in advance so that we may allocate space, as many of our events are very well attended.

Hearing loop system

The Wergeland room has a permanently installed system to accommodate the hearing impaired. If you need to use the hearing loop, please notify the administration, and the technician in the room will provide the receiver and loop. In the other rooms we have  a mobile solution which can be set up upon request. This solution transmits directly to hearing aids. Please notify us of your needs in ample time before the event, so that we can make arrangements.

Transport and Arrivals

Public transport

Take the metro to Nationaltheatret, or tram 11 or bus 21 to Homansbyen, or tram 17 or 18 to Holbergs plass.

If you are arriving in Oslo by plane, you can take the Airport Express Train directly to Nationaltheatret. Exit at Henrik Ibsens vei / Drammensveien / Parkveien, and you will find us by the roundabout, to the right, with the Royal Palace Park as our closest neighbour.

Bicycle Parking

Bicycle racks are placed at both the side entrance and the back of the building. The closest City Bike station is Parkveien – Utenfor Katedralen pub (outside Katedralen pub).

Prams and Pushchairs

Due to safety regulations, prams are not permitted into the building. Prams can be parked by the side entrance on the right hand side of the building.

The House of Literature has no designated parking spaces, but there is a car park in the crossing between Wergelandsveien and Parkveien. Handicap spaces are located at the bottom of Uranienborgveien towards Parkveien.

If you need to unload material or equipment for an event, you can temporarily park your vehicle at the front of the building (max. 15 mins).
