U.S. Elections in the Corona Pandemic
Although the Coronavirus pandemic halted traditional U.S. election campaigning, how are voters, candidates and the media covering U.S. political campaigns both at the national and local level? What are the practical considerations, like doing polling and canvasing voters? How have campaigns gone digital and what will the November’s election potentially end up looking like?
We are joined by White House correspondent Jon Decker at Fox News, Director of Polling at Emerson College Spencer Kimball, Aftenposten journalist Kristoffer Rønneberg, Associate Professor Hilde Restad at Bjørknes Høyskole and Political Commentator Vårin Alme at AmerikanskPolitikk.no.

Jon Decker is White House Correspondent for Fox News Radio, and has been a member of the White House Press Corps since 1995, covering the Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump administration. He is the only lawyer in the press pool and was among the few political journalists to correctly predict the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
Spencer Kimball is an Assistant Professor and Director of Polling at Emerson College. His expertise in polling and campaigning has made him a nationally recognized pollster/pundit in the United States and been cited in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, fivethirtyeight.com, Washington Post and National Public Radio (NPR).
Kristoffer Rønneberg is a Norwegian foreign correspondent, journalist, author and host of Aftenposten’s Forklart podcast. He served as the U.S. Correspondent for Aftenposten in 2013-2017 and before that the newspaper’s correspondent to China in 2005-2007.
Hilde Restad is an Associate Professor at Bjørknes College and Fulbright alumna from the University of Virginia. Her research covers American politics, U.S. foreign policy, American exceptionalism and American history. She is the an analyst for Norwegian media consult on American politics, and has appeared on NRK and in other major Norwegian outlets newspapers.
Vårin Alme is Political Scientist and Commentator at the non-partisan AmerikanskPolitikk.no where she covers U.S. politics, elections and culture for the Norwegian audience. She has appeared on NRK and contributed her expertise to major Norwegian media, including TV2, Dagsavisen and VG.
