Opportunities and challenges faced by the Somali women both i diaspora and in the country
Physical and economic securities are very important principles for human lives. However, these principles have been significantly undermined in Somalia by civil war since 1991. The war has left hundreds of thousands dead, has sent millions in Diaspora and in refugee camps. As result, these conflicts have left the entire country and its society profoundly devastated. During these hard times, the Somali women the ones helping the Somali society to survive and overcome the harship of prolonged conflicts which the divastated the Somalia for over two decades. In fact, they took on the their shoulders the responsibilities for generating the livelihood income of their families. Despite this fact, women are in Somalia those who mosly experienced the hardship and bear the brunt of the Wars. They also faced huge challenges in Diaspora.
Therefore, in order to address the challenges faced by Somali women in Diaspora as well as in the country, different events debating key issues, such as how to overcome such challenges and the graps the avaialible opportunities, will be held in Norway from 8th to 11 November 2015.
Ultimately, the events of the program will debate various perspectives and ideas of how to promote a more inclusive Somali society, and how to engender a more active role for Somali women in social, political and economic development of the country. During the events of the program, the following questions will be addressed:
What are barriers preventing women to actively participating in social, political and economic in the county?
Are these barriers cultural, social or religious?
What would be the way forward to overcome such barriers preventing?
