Bellona og Helsingforskomiteen arrangerer seminar om finanskrisens konsekvenser for Russland. Innledere er prominente navn som den russiske politikeren og to ganger presidentkandidat Grigory Yavlinsky, Bellonas miljøforkjemper Aleksander Nikitin og menneskerettighetsaktivist Svetlana Gannushkina. Etterpå blir det debatt med deltakelse av leder for Bellona Frederic Hauge, Bjørn Jacobsen (SV) og Helsingforkomiteens Aage Borchgrevink.

Consequences of the Financial Crisis in Russia: Increased Authoritarianism or Democratic Revival?

  The financial crisis has lead to devaluation of the rouble, loss of state income and savings, increased unemployment, inflation and social unrest in several regions. The Russian energy- based economy is vulnerable, and the consequences of the crisis may be far reaching and dramatic. Will cracks appear in the Putin/Medvedev regime? Will the crisis entail new opportunities for democracy, human and environmental rights in Russia? How can Norway protect its interests and promote rule of law in Russia?
