Accessibility
As The House of Literature is a house for everyone, we prioritise accessibility in the building, and availability through information material and programmes.
Accessibility
Access to the building
The building has two entrances. The first one is located on the front of the house, with stairs going up to the door. This entrance brings you straight into the restaurant and the bookshop. The second entrance is located on the right side of the building and is at ground level. The doors have motorized door openers and direct access to the elevator, which takes you to all the floors of the house, and therefore all venues and restrooms. All our venues have door frames large and low enough to accommodate wheelchairs. On the ground floor there is a HC-restroom with a door opener next to the Wergeland hall.
Interpreters and chaperones with a chaperone license are admitted freely to events hosted by The House of Literature. Please let us know ahead of time so we can reserve a space for you, as our events may have a lot of visitors.
Hearing loop
The venues Wergeland and Skram have digital hearing loop systems installed, where the sound is broadcast over wifi. You will need to be connected to our guest wifi and scan a QR-code on your phone, and the audio will be made available through the app ListenEverywhere.
In the smaller venues no hearing loops are permanent installed, but a mobile solution can be set up on demand. This needs to be conveyed to The House of Literature's administration ahead of time.
Transport and access
Tram 17, 18 and 19 as well as bus 21 will take you the closest to Wergelandsveien 29. The nearest Subway and train station is Nationaltheatret. Please check ruter.no or the Ruter travel app for more information.
Bicycle parking
There are bicycle stands along the driveway on the front of the building. The closest city bike parkings are Parkveien – Ved trikkestoppet and Uranienborgveien – vest for Slottsparken.
Baby carriages
The fire codes do not allow baby carriages to be brought into the building. They can be placed by the House’s side entrance.
Parking
The House of Literature have no parking spaces, but there is a paid car park located at the intersection between Parkveien and Wergelandsveien. There are some municipal HC-spaces located in Uranienborgveien close to Parkveien. We ask that all deliveries are brought to the back of the house by driving up Hegdehaugsveien from Sven Brun gate, in the direction of Holbergs plass.
