Every summer, a few older women travel to the tiny island of Fjærøy outside the Vega archipelago to continue a centuries-old tradition: They are bird guardians for eider ducks. British James Rebanks spent a season together with them, and in his latest book, The Place of Tides, he depicts his experiences, exploring the relationship between human and nature, as well as the meaning of upholding craft and tradition.
Rebanks is a sheep farmer and author of the books The Shepherd’s Life, English Pastoral and The Place of Tides. Andreas Liebe Delsett is a food writer and author. His latest book is called Leve havet (Long live the sea).
