Fees and terms for rental

Terms and information about our pricing system; what the rental includes, prices, technical equipment and staffing, cancellation rules, the rights we reserve, and catering and book sales during events.

Standard or Discounted Price?

Litteraturhuset employs a two-tier pricing system. Member meetings, courses, and workshops are examples of events that fall under the standard rental price. Events that are open to the public, target a general audience, and fall within Litteraturhuset's areas of focus, namely literature, politics, and society, may qualify for a discounted price. The discounted price also requires that the organizer shares audience information about the event, which can be published in our online event calendar, following the provided template and within specified deadlines.

The rental fee includes

Rental rates include setup, arrangement, and cleaning of the venue and typically apply for up to eight hours. Special setups may incur an additional cost. The period includes technical rehearsals and personal preparations. Our smallest meeting room, Riverton, and the podcast room, Vestly, are available for rent on an hourly basis.

The earliest start time for events is 08:00 on weekdays, 10:00 on Saturdays, and 12:00 on Sundays. Events must conclude by 18:00 on Sundays, and the premises must be vacated by 18:30.

Litteraturhuset is unable to store personal materials. The renter is responsible for any equipment brought in.

Technical Equipment and Staffing

Technicians and equipment rental are in addition to the venue rental. Technicians must be booked at least two weeks before the event date. General technical specifications must be clarified at least one week before the event date.

Renting Wergeland always requires a technician. The same applies to all weekend events with extensive technical requirements, if you want wireless microphones, or for more advanced audio technology.

Any changes to room setups must be specified at least three days before the event date. If the venue needs to be rearranged during the rental period, this requires the rental of an event host, which must be confirmed at least two weeks before the start.

The organizer must always be present during the event. If practical assistance is needed, event hosts can be rented.

Technical Additional Services

Video production and streaming are examples of digital additional services when renting event venues. Prices are in addition to venue rental, audio package, technical personnel, and any other items in the tenant's order. The technicians' fees are determined based on the duration of the assignment. Your needs and desires regarding the rental of technicians and digital services must be agreed upon no later than 14 days before the event date.

As the organizer and tenant, you are responsible for all content, ensuring that the material does not infringe on third-party rights or violate Norwegian law or the streaming platform's guidelines.

The tenant is responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions from all individuals who will be filmed during the event. The tenant retains all intellectual property rights to the content of the recordings/streaming.

Responsibility, Cancellation, and General Terms

The cancellation deadline for renting venues and equipment is no later than 28 days (4 weeks) before the event date.

In the event of cancellation after this deadline, the tenant will be invoiced 50 percent of the agreed fee. In the case of cancellation 14 days before the event date or later, the entire agreed fee will be invoiced. If a technician from Litteraturhuset is hired, an additional fee of NOK 800 (excl. VAT) will apply. In the event of cancellation within 36 hours before the start of the event, this fee amounts to NOK 2,000 (excl. VAT).

The above provisions apply even if the cancellation is due to unforeseen events beyond the parties' control.

Who Can Rent From Us?

Litteraturhuset aims to accommodate as many organizations as possible to host their productions independently.

We want to be a venue for everyone. Therefore, we decline requests from organizations and events when, for various reasons, we cannot ensure the safety of our guests and staff or when the organizers promote a violent or anti-democratic message.

Litteraturhuset reserves the right to reject or cancel rental agreements with organizations or individuals who do not respect Norwegian law, encourage illegal activities, or violate the legal provisions on hate speech.
